　　The Graduate School of China Art Academy was founded in 1978. China Art Academy is one of the first proclaimed units by the State Council that holds the rights to confer art Ph.D. and MA degrees and it is also the one that holds first-class subjects of arts, conferring 8 Ph.D. degrees and 9 MA degrees authorized by the Degree Committee of the State Council. All the subjects include art, musicology, fine arts, design art, drama and traditional opera, film, broadcasting and TV, dance and literature. In 2003, CAA was authorized by China Ministry of Personnel to set up a mobile postdoctoral station. It is also one of the first units approved by the Degree Office of the State Council to confer MA degrees in the art discipline to on-the-job applicants.

　　Over the past decades, China Art Academy has gathered a large number of prestigious scholars and artists such as Mei Lanfang, Cheng Yanqiu, Zhang Geng, Guo Hancheng, Huang Binhong, Wang Chaowen, Cai Ruohong, Zhu Dan, Yang Yinliu, Miu Tianrui, Ge Yihong, Zheng Xuelai, Wu Xiaobang, Hou Baolin, Zhou Ruchang, Feng Qiyong, Li Xifan, Lu Meilin. Their academic ideas and methods not only constitute the academic tradition of China Art Academy, but also successfully play a fundamental role in the forming of teaching ideas of the Graduate School.

　　Under the leadership of previous advanced academic ideas, the Graduate School has gradually formed a particular education theory and method, which can be shown by the following aspects: science and research promote teaching; pay attention to academic exchanges; incorporate theory with practice; fully respect students' creativity and imagination; foster the actual academic ability and competitiveness. This education idea has brought about abundant rewards. Over the past 27 years, nearly 2,000 Ph.D. postgraduates and on-the-job students have graduated from the Graduate School with an employment rate of 100%. They are spread all over the world to undertake teaching, research, creation and art management, many of whom have become famous scholars and academic leaders in their fields.

　　With the establishment of the first-class art subject and mobile postdoctoral station, the teaching conditions of the Graduate School have been improved increasingly, The Graduate School has achieved unprecedented opportunities. At present, the experts and scholars with advanced titles who are qualified to be MA supervisors in the Graduate School are over 300. Meanwhile, some new subjects and research orientations needed urgently by our country and society come into being, many academic fruits come forth, and the graduate education shows unprecedented prosperities. we believe that the Graduate School of China Art Academy will become a worldwide first-class school in the near future.
