The Fine Arts of Chinese Academy of Art is the first batch of disciplines of doctoral degrees award unit authorized by The Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council (ADCSC). The major features of Fine Arts of China Academy of Art can be reflected on structuring and perfecting three systems of history, discussion and evaluation. Through accumulation of 50-year academic research, on the base of art archeology, field research, literature analysis, present research and other aspects, Fine Arts have been studied comprehensively and systematically. This not only forms the research system on History of Fine Arts represented by national key scientific research project of “History of Chinese Fine Arts”, but also forms the theoretical system represented by An Introduction to Aesthetics, Fine Arts Series, and Art criticism system represented by Writing on Chinese Contemporary Art Criticism. With the deep development in the areas of Art Archaeology, Folk Fine Arts, Grotto Arts, Art Appreciation and Collection, Art Ideological Trend, Foreign Arts, Study on Arts and Crafts, particular ideological tradition of this subject is established and then to advance Fine Arts to a new stage.

　　Since 1978, it has trained out few tens of graduate students of doctor degree and near hundred of master degree, accumulated abundant of cultivation experience to train graduate students. In recent years, Fine Arts remains the traditional advantage in the field of theory study, simultaneously undertakes the development of teaching and cultivating in field of practice. The newly added subjects including Chinese Brush Painting, Oil Painting, Calligraphy, Photography and other subjects enrich research directions; and gradually form the cultivation system of Fine Arts to link theory with practice.
