Film Science of Chinese Academy of Art is the first batch of postgraduate discipline and doctor discipline, and is the earliest one of doctoral degree awarding unit authorized by The Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council (ADCSC). In recent 30 years, theoretical study of Film Science, China Academy of Art, has mainly focused on three areas as follows: study on History of China Film, Theoretical Research on Film and Television Art and Research on Foreign Film and Television. The core force of academic community of Film and Television Art Institute, China Academy of Art, represented by Li Shaobai, Zheng Xuelai, Zhang Baiqing and Jia Leilei, theoretically establishs the overall framework of Chinese film. The establishment and development of those subjects including of Film Aesthetic, History of Chinese Film, Film Linguistics, Study on Film Viewers and Film Psychology all have innovative and creative features. In the past several decades, on the spirit of persistence and highly historical sense of responsibility, while scholars of several generations have endeavored to undertake academic researches, they have seriously and carefully collected and arranged the historical material of China Film, and founded relatively integrated film reference room; among them, have the most complete film historical material before Liberation in nationwide. They have completed 30 monographs, 28 authoring, 26 translated books and over 600 pieces of major papers and all of them are innovative products.  

　　The first batch of masters and doctors in Film Science graduated from here. Presently, the main cultivation directions of Film Science are as follows: Contemporary Film, History of Chinese Film, Study on Foreign Film, Study on Genre Film and Theory of Western Films etc.
