Dance has recruited postgraduate students since 1982, and doctoral students since 1996, which was the earliest one of having right to confer master degree and the unique degree awarding unit to confer doctoral degree. In previous years of postgraduates cultivation, it has been consistently focusing on the foundation of basic subjects, especially in the field of History of Chinese Dance and Dance Theory, which not only produces many research achievements, but also has a group of famous experts, scholars at home and abroad represented by Wu Xiaobang, Sun Jingchen, Dong Xijiu and Wang Kefen to team up the most qualified teaching team in this field nationally. During subject development of the recent 20 years, subjects are as follows: The Historiography of Dance, The Basic Theories of Dance, Dance Ecology, Dance Criticism, and Aesthetics of Dance, have remained leading academic position nationally. The main scientific research projects and achievements, undertook by this subject, State important projects: Quintessence of Chinese Contemporary Dance, Volumes of Collected Papers on Chinese Folk Dan, History of Chinese Dances, Illustrated Handbook on History of Chinese Dances, Development History of Chinese Modern, Contemporary and Present Dances, Chinese Dance Volume of Chinese Culture and Art Series, A New Introduction to Dance Art, An Introduction to Dance Ecology, Aesthetics of Dance, Brief History of Ballet, the Contemporary Western Aesthetics of Dance, Dictionary of Chinese Dance etc. Many of the achievements are awarded at the level of State and Ministry. In recent years, on the basis of consolidating existing subjects, they are endeavoring to explore new research directions, i.e. Dancing Cultural Anthropology, Theory And Practice of Choreography, Dance Education, Study on Film Dance and Study on Dance Creation etc.

　　Presently, the main training directions of dancing are History of Chinese Ancient Dance, History of Chinese Dance And Theory, Dancing Cultural Anthropology And Study on Chinese Folk Dance, Chinese Ethnic Minority's Folk Dance Culture, Theory And Practice of Choreography, Film Dance, Study on Chinese Folk Dance Culture, Study on History of Foreign Dance And Theory, Theory And Practice of Modern Dance etc.
